"We need to be on social media" is usually the start of the wrong conversation. The better question is: where are your actual customers spending their time, and what do they expect to see from a business like yours there? Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are not interchangeable — they reward different content, attract different audiences, and serve different stages of the buying decision.
Facebook: still the default for local and B2B
Facebook's audience in Bangladesh and Malaysia skews slightly older and remains the strongest platform for local businesses, community trust, and detailed targeting options. Facebook Ads also tend to perform well for lead generation and retargeting — people who've already visited your website or interacted with your page.
Instagram: built for visual trust
If your product or service can be shown rather than just explained — food, fashion, interiors, before-and-afters — Instagram tends to outperform. It's also where a lot of brand discovery happens for younger, higher-income audiences, making it a strong fit for premium positioning.
TikTok: reach without the trust yet built in
TikTok offers the cheapest reach of the three right now, and its algorithm can put an unknown brand in front of a huge audience fast. The tradeoff is that TikTok content has to feel native to the platform — polished, ad-style content tends to underperform compared to something that feels like it belongs in someone's feed.
So which one should you actually use?
- Local service business, older audience, lead generation focus → Facebook
- Visual product, premium positioning, younger audience → Instagram
- Brand awareness, low budget, willing to experiment with content → TikTok
- Serious about growth → usually more than one, run differently on each
The part most businesses skip
Paid ads get the attention, but consistent organic posting and active community management are what make paid campaigns perform better — audiences convert faster when they've already seen a brand show up consistently, not just once in an ad.
"Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok aren't interchangeable — they reward different content and attract different audiences entirely."
